The Supported Houses

Our Locations and Support Services:

Welham Green, Hertfordshire:

  • Our journey began in April 2022 with the opening of our first property, a historic schoolhouse in Welham Green. This lovingly restored building, originally built in the 1890s, now offers 10 spacious bedrooms for residents.

Expanding our Reach:

Since then, we have expanded our support network to include Seven additional houses in Hatfield and one in Hemel Hempstead, bringing the total to fifteen properties supporting 86 individuals.

We have created a sober living house, we call Oxford First, for men in recovery and will be creating a supportive living environment for women fleeing domestic violence, seeking independence and personal growth but are not struggling with addiction, we hope to have this in place by Christmas 2024.

Partnership for Quality:

We collaborate closely with our landlord partners to ensure all our properties meet the highest standards and provide a comfortable environment for residents.

Tailored Support and Development:

A dedicated team of three support workers visits each house daily. They work hand-in-hand with residents to develop personalised support plans addressing their specific needs and aspirations. These plans typically involve:

  • Structured weekly schedules: Activities and sessions designed to promote social interaction, well-being, and personal development.

  • Essential life skills training: This includes guidance on obtaining necessary documentation (ID, driving licenses), registering with healthcare services, managing finances, and developing independent living skills.

  • Educational and training opportunities: We actively support residents in pursuing further education or vocational training to enhance their skills and career prospects.

  • Employment assistance: We actively help residents explore and secure employment opportunities, promoting greater independence and self-sufficiency.

We currently have eight houses in Hertfordshire.

Working Together to Support Individuals:

First People Housing CIC collaborates with a network of local and national support providers to ensure our residents receive the comprehensive support they need to thrive.

Partnerships include:

  • National Probation Service and Local Probation Services

  • Local Council Housing Services

  • All the Hatfield-based Housing Support Services

  • National, Regional, and Local Government

  • Regional and Local Police

  • Job Centre Plus

  • GPs and other healthcare professionals

  • Mental Health Services

Tailored Support:

Our service is designed specifically for single adults, offering a safe and stable environment for up to two years. We encourage residents to focus on their individual goals and aspirations, and our dedicated support workers provide guidance and assistance throughout their stay.

Moving On:

Upon completion of their time with First People Housing CIC, our support workers work closely with each resident to secure suitable and sustainable accommodation. This may include transitioning to a local authority property, reuniting with family, returning to their own home, or finding a private rental property.

By fostering strong partnerships and offering personalised support, First People Housing CIC encourages growth and inspires change.

More properties required

Would you like guaranteed rent?

Would you like to work with a not for profit giving people a second chance?

We are looking for 4 to 10 bed properties to rent in Hertfordshire and North London - from Enfield to Hertford and from Harrow to Hemel Hempstead.

Our Company First People Housing CIC currently manages two HMO (House in Multiple Occupation) properties (a 10 and a 3-bed property)

We appreciate that you may not hold an HMO license, we are happy to pay the costs and manage the legal responsibility of the HMO if this might be a barrier?

Who is the tenant?

First People Housing CIC would be your tenant so you know that you will receive your rent on time and regularly.

The residents are given a license to occupy rather than a tenancy as this allows us to evict with immediate effect if anyone is breaching any house rules.

House rules vary for each client group, which depends on the type of service we are offering at a property.

We can send you a copy of the license agreement and house rules if you feel this is something you would consider.

Is my house safe?

The house would be staffed daily so you could also be assured that your property would be clean and well looked after. There would be at least one staff member on site between 9am and 8pm daily.

We have an overnight on-call system and would seek to install cameras with your permission so we can keep checks on anything untoward 24/7.

We can provide landlord, professional and personal references as required.
